How we protect kids' data
Last updated:
Children's Chore is used by children, so we designed it around the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws worldwide from the first line of code. Here's what that means in plain words.
A parent comes first, always
- Only an adult can create an account. They verify their email with a one-time code.
- They then read and accept a consent screen, signing with their name. No child profile can be created until that's done.
- Co-parents join only through a private invite link and must also confirm they are a parent or guardian.
The only things we store about a child
- A display name — a first name or nickname. We block email addresses here.
- An age group (4–6, 7–9, 10–12 or 13+) — never a birthday.
- A 4-number PIN, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form.
- An avatar chosen from our cartoon pictures.
- The chores they complete and points they earn, so the app works.
Kids never type an email, password, phone number, address, school or anything personal. They log in with their picture + PIN, or by scanning a QR code a parent prints.
Photo proof
- Photo proof is optional and only used when a parent turns it on for a chore.
- Before a photo leaves the device, the app re-draws it, which removes hidden data like GPS location.
- Photos are private to your family. They're never public, never shared and never used for anything else.
- Photos are deleted when you delete the child or your family.
No ads. No trackers. No selling.
- There are no ads anywhere in Children's Chore, and there never will be.
- There are no third-party analytics, pixels or trackers on any screen kids use.
- We never sell or rent data, and never use it to build profiles of children.
- Kids can't chat, message or see anyone outside their family.
You're in control
- See everything we hold about your kids inside the app (their profile, chores and the full points ledger, which you can export as CSV).
- Delete a single child, or your whole family, in one tap from the Family screen. It's permanent and includes photos.
